A family home with an elevated edge

L.A.K. Constructions oversaw the extensive renovation of this classic old Queenslander in Paddington, ensuring the home\’s charm remained intact while creating the homeowner\’s dream of a larger abode that was more suited for modern living.

The sloping block required a huge amount of earthworks so, working around the existing home, the entire structure was lifted and shifted. “The extensive amount of earthworks and foundations was a top priority in the initial process,” says Luke Kruberg from L.A.K. Constructions. “This was the game changer that allowed us to create the open plan living in the new extension that our clients so wanted, blending the old house with the new.”

Further enhancing the scale of the home\’s interior is the vast stairwell with lift shaft – an engineering feat that completely opens up the living spaces and floods the house with much needed natural light.

The DomusAdvantage Lift was installed by Easy Living Home Elevators, specialists in the field of integrated home elevators which are celebrating 20 years in business. The Domus lift is the most bought home elevator in Australia, and on top of the easy installation and convenience it offers, the lift\’s beautiful design and customisable exterior lend well to this home\’s sleek design. Easy Living Home Elevators were able to match the style and size of lift to fit perfectly into the new home, both functionally and aesthetically.

Designed with optimum energy conservation features that ensure extremely low running costs, and with the latest in cutting-edge technology literally at your fingertips thanks to its smart elevator monitoring solution called EagleOS, the DomusAdvantage Lift was the obvious choice for this project – and the clients could not be happier.

The house now boasts five bedrooms (two with ensuite), an additional bathroom, two powder rooms, and three lounge and living spaces. A well designed and well-built kitchen, with the Wire and Craw Cabinetry paired with Miele appliances and Subzero Fridge, completes the idyll. “The kitchen suits the style of the home, and extends the functionality of the space too, as we\’ve used sliding doors that draw back into the wall cavity completely out of sight, opening up to the outdoor entertaining area and pool,” says Luke from L.A.K Constructions. Built-in BBQ cabinetry by Wire and Craw creates a seamless flow from inside to outside.

From start to finish, the project took 18 months – an extraordinary turn around given the challenges of the site and the works undertaken. But that\’s the success story of working with an award-winning builder like L.A.K. Constructions and their preferred partners.
