By Nikki Ernst

Foodies, mark your calendars – 25 July to 3 August – because the Sunshine Coast’s The Curated Plate festival is back again this year, and trust me, you won’t want to miss it!

Picture 10 days packed with top chefs, incredible local produce, and unforgettable dining experiences—it’s basically a foodie’s dream come true. And if you’re into great food, fine wine, craft beer, and a little adventure, consider this your perfect excuse for a winter escape to this beautiful region.

The full lineup is dropping this month, but after getting a sneak peek with Festival Culinary Director Peter Kuruvita, I can tell you that this year’s festival will be next-level sensational!

From a divine Asian-inspired tasting menu and luxurious overnight stay at Spicers Tamarind Retreat to a farm-fresh breakfast at Yanalla Farms with the region’s passionate farmers and producers, every moment of our media tour was unforgettable. We also immersed ourselves in First Nations culture with Saltwater Eco Tours, went behind the scenes at Rockliff Seafoods, and wrapped it all up with a lively (and fiercely competitive!) dinner at Fish on Parkyn. So. Much. Fun!

Each experience was a mouthwatering showcase of the region’s finest ingredients, expert craftsmanship, rich stories—and a fabulous taste-test of what The Curated Plate will serve on this year’s festival menu! Let’s whet your appetite …

A Seafood Feast for the Senses

Love fresh seafood? You’re in for a treat! The festival starts with The Seafood Series (25–27 July), celebrating Mooloolaba’s world-class catch with multi-day events spotlighting the region’s renowned seafood.

Behind-the-Scenes Seafood Experience – 26 July

Ever wondered what goes into bringing the freshest seafood to your plate? Join Rockliff Seafoods for an exclusive behind-the-scenes tour of Mooloolaba’s fisheries and trawlers. Guided by Peter Kuruvita, this immersive experience will take you through the journey of wild-caught Mooloolaba prawns, Fraser Isle spanner crab, tuna, and barramundi—from ocean to table.

Grape V Grain Long Lunch – 25 July

For those who love a side of fun with their feast, the Grape V Grain Long Lunch at Fish on Parkyn is where you’ll want to be. Hosted with Brockenchack Wines and 10 Toes Brewery, this lively event pairs exquisite seafood with expertly matched wine and beer selections. Expect a deliciously entertaining showdown between wine and craft beer as you sip and savour your way through a mouthwatering seafood-inspired menu.

First Nations Cultural and Food Experience – 26 July

Step into an unforgettable journey of culture, storytelling, and local flavours with a First Nations-led food experience hosted by SaltWater Eco Tours and led by Aunty Bridgette Chilly Davis of the Mooloolah Kabi Kabi community. This immersive event will highlight traditional Indigenous culinary techniques, native ingredients, and the deep connection between land, sea, and culture. It’s a rare and powerful opportunity to experience the region’s history through food, all while enjoying a stunning seafood spread infused with native flavours.

Whether you’re a seafood connoisseur or just love indulging in fresh, local flavours, this series is a must-attend!

A Feast Amongst the Orchard

If a long lunch under the trees or a whimsical tea party in an orchard sounds like your kind of fun, then Yanalla Farm is the place to be! Set amongst lush lychee trees, this picturesque farm will host two spectacular events celebrating local flavours in the most magical setting.

First up, on 25 July, don your most outrageous hat and step into the wonderland of Martin Duncan’s Mad Hatter’s Tea Party. Expect a spread of handcrafted sweet treats, locally inspired savoury bites, and exquisite gin cocktails—all while soaking up the farm’s vibrant atmosphere.

Then, on 26 July, settle in for the Glasshouse Country Long Lunch, where farm-fresh ingredients take centre stage in a leisurely feast of regional flavours. With a menu inspired by the Sunshine Coast’s rich produce and an orchard setting that feels straight out of a storybook, this is one event you won’t want to miss!

Asian Fusion at Its Finest

If you love bold, punchy flavours and a mix of sweet, sour, and spice, the Sunshine Coast Asian Food Festival (2 & 3 August) at Spicers Tamarind Retreat is your ultimate foodie destination. Set amongst lush rainforest surroundings, this two-day feast brings together some of the region’s best Asian-inspired chefs from renowned restaurants, each serving up their signature flavours in an unforgettable open-air setting.
