In Wellington Point, boutique Brisbane Bayside builder Bowe Projects has done exactly that, delivering a two-storey family residence that trades noise for warmth, and spectacle for substance.

Designed as if it were their own
Phil and Adrienne Bowe have been crafting boutique homes across Brisbane’s Bayside since 2013 through their design-and-build company, Bowe Projects, and their approach hasn’t changed. Every project begins with a simple but powerful question: if we were building this for ourselves, what would we want?
“Bowe Projects properties are always designed with families in mind,” Adrienne explains. “We begin by approaching each home as if we were designing it for ourselves, focusing on elements we believe are essential for making a home functional yet comfortable.”
That philosophy is visible in every corner of this Wellington Point home, from the thoughtful spatial planning to the material choices that prioritise longevity over novelty.
A material palette with depth and character
The story of this home is really a story about materials, and how the right ones, layered with intention, can carry an entire interior without ever needing to shout.
Internal stone walling, a signature Bowe Projects element, creates immediate warmth and texture from the moment you step inside. For this project the team pushed themselves further, introducing copper finishes for the first time. It’s a detail that rewards closer inspection, adding richness and depth throughout the interiors in a way that feels both unexpected and entirely at home.
“By using a variety of textures, shapes and elements, we were able to create the desired effect by layering them throughout the house,” Phil explains. “The copper finishes added a beautiful depth to the overall design, which we absolutely love.”
Timber flooring by Awesome Timber Floors anchors the interior with natural warmth, while stone and tile selections from Edge Tiles and Stone and Stone Style add further textural interest. Outside, cladded aluminium timber by Deco Wood wraps the carport, carrying the material language of the home all the way to the street.
Making the most of a narrow block
The site’s gentle slope could have been a limitation. Bowe Projects treated it as an opportunity. A step-down transition into the kitchen and living area creates unexpected volume, with ceiling heights that make the spaces feel far more generous than the narrow block dimensions would suggest.
“Buyers are surprised by the size of the house,” Adrienne notes. “Despite being designed on a narrow block, the home’s spaces are not compromised and are generous in size.”
Open-plan living allows seamless movement between zones throughout the ground floor, a practical decision for family life that also creates a strong visual connection from front to back. Custom-designed oversized rear doors from Trend Windows and Doors disappear entirely into hidden wall cavities when open, dissolving the boundary between inside and out in a way the Bowes are particularly proud of. The result is an indoor-outdoor connection that feels genuinely expansive.

Details that elevate the everyday
The kitchen island sits at the heart of the home as its central hub, precisely where a busy family needs it. Cabinetry by Larry McFarlane Cabinetmakers features integrated appliances from Harvey Norman Commercial and designer handles from Lo and Co, creating a refined, cohesive look that avoids visual clutter without sacrificing function.
Adjacent to the kitchen, a dedicated bar space with its own wine fridge adds an individual touch that lifts the whole ground floor. “A potentially ordinary space turned beautiful,” Adrienne says simply, and she’s right.
Upstairs, his-and-hers wardrobes in the primary suite give each adult their own dedicated space, while the ensuite features a skylight above the shower and individual vanities, small luxuries that quietly enhance the daily routine. Tapware and basins from ABI Interiors and doors by Burleigh Ali Doors complete a palette that feels thoroughly resolved from top to bottom.
Light as a design material
Perhaps the most consistent response from people who walk through this home is how bright it feels. Natural light floods every space throughout the day, regardless of the sun’s position, a result of careful orientation and strategic planning rather than luck. It’s the kind of detail that doesn’t announce itself but that you’d immediately notice if it weren’t there.
In a new build market saturated with trend-chasing and surface-level finishes, this Wellington Point residence takes a genuinely different approach. Modern without being cold, neutral without being bland, it’s a home that finds its confidence in restraint, and its beauty in the balance between the functional and the considered.
