Designer style adds the finishing touch of class to this modern Gold Coast home

With a backdrop this good-looking, adding the final flourish was a dream job for the Coco Republic interior design team. This chic, north-facing house, built by Koryzma Constructions, enjoys a prime riverside perch in the Gold Coast enclave of Broadbeach Waters, capturing views stretching to the Surfers Paradise skyline. It was created to celebrate life in a superb location – but first, it needed to entice local and international interest at auction.

Coco Republic was immediately on board when it came to preparing the home for its day in the sun, having worked with Koryzma on several projects. “Our priority was showcasing the beautiful home’s crisp modern canvas to its full potential,” explains Laure Bebbington, Coco Republic’s Queensland senior interior designer.

Working to a look dubbed “modern coastal opulence”, Laure’s goal was to balance architectural elements with a welcoming sense of home. “We were conscious of incorporating luxe textural finishes with organic layers together with the warmer timber elements,” she says.

The team selected key pieces from their CR Essentials label as well as custom artworks and accents, lavishing particular attention on the living and dining spaces. Light pours into these areas thanks to a stunning 5.8-metre ceiling void, soaring windows and expansive sliding doors that open to the pool and calm waterways beyond.

“We’ve designed the main living and dining areas to still feel pared back and well balanced with the contemporary features of the home, with enough contrast to enhance the large ceiling space” says Laure.

While the distilled colour palette maintains a sophisticated mood, unique pieces and tactile finishes add gravitas and a dash of drama. Curvaceous ‘Pierre’ dining chairs offer the perfect foil for the ‘Asha’ charred timber dining table, their plush velvet finish mirrored in the ‘Milou’ swivel chairs. A delicate paper Folded Dreams artwork, by Californian studio Natural Curiosities, echoes the oak panel installation and custom joinery that frame the fireplace.

Though the home’s aesthetic takes cues from mid-century and even art-deco design, the relaxed slipcover style of the CR Essentials ‘Newport’ sofas is pure coastal  luxe and a classic choice for the waterfront locale. After all, who wouldn’t want to kick back here at the end of a long day out on the water?

With a focus on alfresco entertaining, the interior theme ripples out onto the terrace where the Coco Republic ‘St Martin’ outdoor extension dining table is flanked by smart ‘Sierra’ outdoor dining chairs. Streamlined and elegant, the setting helps create a focal point between the home’s airy white interiors and the layers of beautiful blue outside. Sleek ‘Cali’ outdoor sunloungers offer a stylish vantage point for the iconic water views.

On the home’s upper level, Coco Republic\’s signature comfort and style converge in the five bedrooms. “The bedrooms are soft yet bold, with the furniture and styling maximising each space and making sure they feel luxurious and welcoming,” notes Laure. Standout moments in the master retreat include the deco-inspired shagreen finish of the Coco Republic ‘Barolo’ side tables, ‘Fortune’ alabaster table lamps and prints from iconic American photographer Slim Aarons.

This level also has its own dedicated leisure room where the soft channel detail of the ‘Oregon’ modular sofa from Coco Republic echoes the arched, fluted and folded accents that are threaded through the home. These well-considered curves create a sense of connection and interest throughout the expansive property.

Expert curation gives the finished interiors their seamless finish and “subtle yet powerful impact,” notes Laure. For builder Shannon Koryzma, it was a project that went far beyond staging, with the home and furniture offered for sale as a complete package. “We chose to fully furnish and style the home well before completion,” he says. “This allowed us the opportunity of selecting and securing imported pieces in these difficult times.”

Entrusting Coco Republic with his outstanding property was all part of a firmly established working relationship. “We have always selected Coco Republic to provide that additional feel of luxury,” says Shannon. “And we have always found their contribution an invaluable asset to the impact of our designs.”
